THE FIRST MEETING OF THE WORKING GROUP ON THE CHABAHAR PORT AT THE LEVEL OF SENIOR OFFICIALS OF INDIA AND CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTRIES WAS HELD

On April 12-13, 2023, in the Indian city of Mumbai, within the framework of multilateral cooperation in the “Central Asia-India” format, the first meeting of the joint Working Group on the Chabahar port at the level of senior officials of India and Central Asia was held.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Foreign Ministers of India and the Islamic Republic of Iran, representatives of the transport sector and the Ambassadors of the Central Asian countries, the representative of the UN Food Program (FAO) in Afghanistan and the Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai.

Speakers at the event spoke about the possibilities of the Chabahar port, that it is an important part in the North-South transport corridor and the Ashgabat Agreement, and also noted that the port is of particular importance for the development of trade relations between India and the Central Asian countries and for the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan in his speech provided detailed information on the work and projects carried out under the leadership of the esteemed President in the country and at the international level in the field of transport. It was also said about the events and conferences held at the initiative of Turkmenistan in the transport sector and the UN General Assembly resolutions adopted as a result.

In addition, the Ambassador invited the countries present at the meeting to take part in an international conference and exhibition entitled “International transit and transport corridors: interconnection and development-2023”, which will be held in Ashgabat on May 3-4, 2023.

Following the meeting, the delegations adopted a Joint Declaration.
