CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE ELECTION OF TURKMENISTAN TO MEMBERSHIP IN THREE COMMITTEES OF ECOSOC
On the 11th of May 2019, a Conference named “Turkmenistan – UN: New frontiers of strategic cooperation” was held in the Center of Public Organizations of Turkmenistan which is dedicated to the election of Turkmenistan to membership in three bodies of ECOSOC.
As is known, on the 7th of May of current year during the work of Organizational session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, our country was elected to its three important bodies: Executive Board of the World Food Programme for the period of 2020-2022, Commission on Population and Development for the period of 2020-2024 and Commission on Narcotic Drugs for the period of 2020-2023.
The Chairwoman of the Parliament (Mejlis) of Turkmenistan, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads and representatives of the ministries and departments, municipalities, political parties, public organizations, higher education institutions of Turkmenistan, editors-in-chief of national newspapers and magazines, heads of diplomatic missions and foreign representative offices, accredited in Turkmenistan, as well as the foreign journalists working in our country participated to the Conference.
During their addresses, the participants specifically noted that for Turkmenistan close and multilateral cooperation with the United Nations in the resolution of humanitarian issues is a long-term established practice, which has proved its effectiveness in reality and conforms to lasting national interests, as well as the strategic goals of the international community.
In addition, the participants noted in their speeches the significance of the election of our country to the membership of ECOSOC structures that became a logical outcome of the large-scale and important work carried out in Turkmenistan.
Also, a briefing of the heads of the United Nations Offices in Turkmenistan was organized for the representatives of mass media, during which a question and answer session was organized. / Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan /
