DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN ARRIVED TO NEW YORK TO PARTICIPATE TO THE HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM UNDER THE AUSPICES OF ECOSOC
In the framework of the first day of the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan in New York headed by the Minister of Finance and Economy, a number of meetings with the heads of the UN specialized agencies and programmes were held on the 17th of July 2019. Particularly, the meetings were held with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Ms. Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, Deputy Secretary General, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
During the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General, the parties underlined the necessity of developing closer cooperation ties in the sphere of transport and energy. In this regard, the significance of the initiatives of Turkmenistan in promoting the issues of developing the international transport-transit corridors on the UN platform, as well as widening of collaboration in the provision of stable transit of energy resources to the world markets was highlighted. Stressing the importance of the international transport collaboration between the landlocked countries, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to actively participate further in the forums organized by the Office of the Deputy Secretary General.
During the meeting with the Executive Secretary of ESCAP, the parties discussed a number of practical steps on strengthening the regional partnership in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as in the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in United Nations Special Programme for the economies of Central Asia (SPECA).
During the talks with the high-level UN representatives, the delegation of Turkmenistan renewed its invitation to the First Caspian Economic Forum, in the framework of which various current cooperation issues are to be discussed that are of interest to the above stated UN agencies.
