The official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran

On June 14, 2022, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov left for the Islamic Republic of Iran on an official visit.

At the Ashgabat International Airport, the head of state was escorted by officials.

In just over an hour, the plane landed at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport, decorated on this significant occasion with the National Flags of the two friendly countries.

Iranian officials, as well as members of the government delegation of Turkmenistan, warmly and cordially welcomed the distinguished guest at the ramp of the plane.

The head of the Turkmen state walked to the Hall of Official delegations along the carpet, on both sides of which the soldiers of the Honor Guard lined up.

During a brief talk held here over a cup of tea with a representative of the host country, the high level and productivity of the multidimensional cooperation established recently, as well as the trust-based nature of Turkmen-Iranian relations, contributing to even greater rapprochement and mutual understanding of friendly neighboring peoples, were noted with satisfaction.

From the air harbor, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan proceeded in the direction of the residence allotted to him in the Serwestan building of the Saadabad Palace Complex. Located at the foot of the mountains, in a picturesque place of one of the prestigious districts in the north of Tehran, this complex has been and remains among the main attractions of the Iranian capital.

The official welcoming ceremony of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi will take place tomorrow.

It is expected that during the summit talks, the parties’ approaches to further building multifaceted cooperation, which has been successfully developed in recent years both in bilateral and multilateral formats – within the framework of major international organizations and reputable regional structures, will be specified.

The very fact that Iran has become one of the first countries that President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visits as the head of the Turkmen state suggests that establishing close, full-scale cooperation with neighboring states remains a priority of our country’s foreign policy strategy, successfully following the course of constructive international dialogue in everyone’s interests.

Today, at a new stage of state development, Turkmenistan and Iran demonstrate their effort to bring traditional political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties to a qualitatively new level that fully meets the priorities of socio-economic development and the national interests of each of the parties. This is best evidenced by the package of documents being prepared for signing, intended to regulate partnership in a whole range of priority areas.

It should be noted that the business prologue to the upcoming high-level talks in Tehran was the bilateral meetings held by members of the government delegation of Turkmenistan with the heads of relevant ministries and sectoral departments of Iran.

There is no doubt that all the agreements reached during the current visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Iran will give a new powerful impetus to the development of an equal and highly confidential Turkmen-Iranian dialogue in the interests of neighboring states and their fraternal peoples.
